I for one am intrigued by this saga whether you manage to resolve it or not Paul.
No disrespect to the OP but I've had a couple of occasions over the years with this sort of frustration, finally ending in a slap-head moment when a pal has cast an eye over my fettling. Even so, there's a guy in our section who, in spite of a couple of us having a quick poke at it, has not been able to get his G80CS running even though it has a new carb and a professionally rebuilt mag, although it does fire now and again.
Maybe Clive could invite answers as to what the problem is likely to be by making it a Quiz question? .

Are you suggesting that Clive is in some way related to the Quizmaster?

Not related but I do have a telepathic communication channel. Perhaps Spriddler could PM me with his proposal and I will get pathetically communicating if the idea is a runner.

Maybe stating the obvious here, a: it is timed on the correct stroke and b: have you tried another coil?

Re: Low compression after rebuild, won't start
Hello, again. I believe I have timed on the correct stroke and have checked a few times. The coil was BNIB, to the correct specifications for Boyer. Thanks for removing my number, I didn't know it was totally open as I am always asked for a PW
