AJS Model 8 seat

Post by jajo57 »

Can someone please tell me if the seat for a model 8 is unique to that particular model, or can a seat from another model be made to fit. I'm trying to gather together all the missing parts from my "Basket Case" AJS and have found a seat very hard to find.

I recently contacted R.K.Leighton and they told me that if they could only get a frame, they would make some up as they are often approached with enquiries about this particular item. So, is there anyone out there who would be prepared to lend a seat to Leighton and help those of us with Model 8's make progress?

Richard

O.K I confess I have great problems in identifying AMC models by their numbers system, is the model 8 the 250 lightweight, if it is I have a mate with one who probably has a seat we can take it from there, kind regards

That's correct, it's a lightweight. The seats are unique to them, the 250 and 350 model 8 and 14 or G2 and G5.

R K Leightons may be able to make you one or supply foam and cover for your old one if it isn't rusted through.

Sorry, maybe I haven't made myself clear, I don't have a seat.

Leightons' would make a seat IF they had a pattern to work from, which is why I'm asking if anyone with a seat would be kind enough to lend it to them.

I think you'll find that's my advert Goldstar, I like to approach challenges from different angles. However, you are correct, I'm not alone, Leightons' told me they had had two enquiries for Model 8 seats in the last month and mine was the third.

I'm going to Brooklands tomorrow for the "Spring Motorcycle Gathering" so will browse the stands for AJS bits.

Regards Richard M.

Give JSL a ring on Tues as I've just been to a committee meeting and noticed that there were 2 on the racking that hold the s/hand spares. Did'nt have a real good look so can't comment on the condition.
