Please! before everyone starts banging their heads on the wall, I do know quite a bit has been written re this and I have read quite a bit of it! However - my G12 clutch slips under increased power esp. when cold, not too seriously and if I just bumble along it's fine. Engine turns over well on kickstarter and the change itself is A1, no problems engaging neutral etc. So, in your considered opinions, is this likely to be (a) a simple matter of clutch adjustment, (b) springs about to curl up and die or (c) something different. The bike's perfectly rideable as long as you don't go grabbing a handful (of throttle!!). Thanks for any input.Edited by - Steve Dempster on 30 Jul 2008 8:08:04 PM

I vote A. Probably just needs the springs tightening SLIGHTLY.

...yes the "indented-split-blade-no-handle" screwdriver, obtainable at authorized AMC outlets like JSL

On a more serious note, here is little tip: when you get it from say JSL, it will be fitted a ridiculous little handle with no leverage at all. Cut it off with a hacksaw and use the blade (not the hacksaw!) in an electric drill. This will allow you to apply the necessary pressure and turning action, particularly when the springs have been out...Edited by - TommoT on 31 Jul 2008 07:05:43 AM

Tommo - thanks for that. I thought of last time I did this on a Triumph and that was fun and games without the special tool, I can tell you!

BTW - JSL no longer do that highly specialised tool. I rang 'em and they said 'oh you mean the notch-ended-screwdriver-thingy. No, we find that members do their own...' Good old high-tech Brit bike stuff

You can usually pick up at any of the bike related auto-jumbles - they are not AJS specific.

Hello all, do you have the right amount of slack in the cluth cable? and/or tightning the springs.

Yes, that's OK and I'm pretty sure the clutch pushrod has clearance though I will check come the weekend. Now I goots find me a big oold screwie with a wide blade.....Edited by - Steve Dempster on 31 Jul 2008 6:32:01 PM

Just file one up from an old piece of steel. I made mine from an old beer can/bottle opener.

Of course, first, I bought a new AMOC beer bottle opener from JSL!
