Could someone advise please, for my G3 LS i need to put the silver/red waterslides around the matchless badge.I have found the measurements and template on tech details, but need to know where to get the transfer paper to use I agree this will be a challenge, using a lot of patience, but what are the alternatives, only i cannot see any for sale.
I guess they were originally hand painted on,maybe i could do this,(or maybe not)
Any ideas?
Thanks for reading,
Mike

If you have found a template the original must have been hand painted. It is very hard to do this yourself. Chris Pinfold at Jampot Spares was considering providing this service. He is a very skilful sign-writer and painted all the wall graphics at Jampot Spares. You could try ringing him.

Otherwise befriend a local sign writer.

If you have the dimensions and a picture could you not go to a local Graphic designer who could laser cut the image. I did this for the flying m and pin stripes on my Harris G80.

This is the silver stripe with red stripe inside that fits around the plastic matchless sign either side of tank.
I think the idea of going to a graphic designer is a good one Thanks

Mike ,check out one of the transfer specialists, you may find that the transfer version of the plastic tank badge is the same size as the original, and you could cut it out. They are usually made in vinyl, but beware, the old style transfer type don't like being over laquered with modern solvent based products.
Hard work never killed anyone.....but why take the risk?

This is the lining of the Tank.
Always handpainted,
you can do it yourself,.... if you are clever.....A good sign writer might be able to help.
Anything cut out of plastic and stuck on will look sooooo minging on a classic.
A sign writer will want to know what is the type of paint he is going to work over. Not all sign writers are up to this level of skill though.
Lewis and Templeton up near Coventry used to be the masters of this art on bike tanks.
You will need to sit down when they tell you how much.

Don't try and use the striping sold in car shops and modelling emporiums, they say it doesn't creep, but it always does from me. Looks good for six months, out comes the Sun and it shrinks and creeps.

An ex-factory employee in our section tells us all the tanks were done by one man, freehand with long deft strokes. When he retired, he didn't want to know!

I rememeber years ago on my new BSA Bantam the stripes were freehand, you could see the join! Later on a special I had a sign writer do a job, it was rubbish yet another one did a wonderful job. I think they are a dieing breed.
