On checking the Magneto chain tension I noticed that there is play/end float on the Magneto drive sprocket (000727), am I right in assuming there should be none or minimal play here and it's the Camshaft needs shimming to correct this.
Thanks Jim

Re: camshaft end float 1955 g3lcs
Jampot Spares sells 3 thou shims; I seem to remember AMC Classic Spares sells other thicknesses. They are easy to fit; take off the outer cover and fit them, it's trial and error to get minimum play with no binding. They are cheap enough so get a number in different thicknesses. When you have established required thickness, they should go between main crankcase and cam. Use as few as possible to make up required thickness, eg better 1 x 5 thou than a 2 and a 3. Took me about 15 mins on my 18S. Andy

Thanks Andy, just checked the end float before taking the Timing gear cover off, seems to be 15 to 18 thou. play.
