My oil return to tank is very frothy, .. normal, ?..

Return pump has increased capacity to deal with aerated oil, after being thrashed about in the engine. Sounds normal, check against another bike if you get the chance?

My 63 twin returns oil in spurts, definitely not frothy but the oil tank has a what I believe is called a froth tower.

perfectly normal. The return / scavenge pump will try and drain the sump and naturally suck air as well.
