Alternator

Hi all,
My alternatorseems to be faulty. Has anyone fitted a Royal Enfield stator as a replacement and if so which one?
This just seemed a cheap option as genuine ones seem a bit rare.
Thanks Don.

Have you checked out the stator output/windings/continuity/insulation with a meter or are you just suspecting it's faulty?
I've not had a L/W or an alternator bike so can't give you any test figures but someone may be able to help with that, or you may find details if you use this website's Forum 'Search' facility. Here's just one of the threads from my brief search that suggests the Enfield stator works O.K.

You'll also find some Lucas info on the website of club member 'Groily' here:

Club spares have the (rare?) Lucas stator (and the rotor).

I put a meter between the White and Orange alternator wire .9 Ohms
White and Lt Green " " .9 Ohms
Lt Green and Orange 1.6 Ohms
I tried for continuity between each of the wires and earth and the meter didn't buzz.
Does this mean the stator is O.K. or do I order one from the club spares site?
The bike runs so the ignition side seems O.K.

Hi , I picked up a triumph tiger cub/ bsa bantam Wipac alternator which was a straight swap for the original one and the rotor is the same part number . Only difference was the colours of wires. Works a treat!

As I mentioned, I've never had an alternator on a bike and know very little about testing but a quick look through 'Technical Articles' on the main Jampot website found this snippet (there may be more articles) which would seem to suggest that your test readings might be satisfactory, although I can't see any reference to the 1.6 Ohms between Lt Green and Orange :

Thanks for your interest and help. I think I'll say the alternator is o.k. for now and carry on with the restoration.
