Carb help please.

Post by Mollbhan »

Bought a really nice 1948 AJS 18 with a worn out pre monoblock carb, sent off to get re-sleeved, months later and still waiting. A flea bay replacement was predictably perhaps no better than the original. I would like to fit a wassell carb until I get a pre monoblock sorted out, can anybody offer advice on type, jetting etc, the club spares scheme seems to have them but I need to be sure I get the right one? Thanks.

Thanks Andy but spending nearly £200.00 overhauling the old carb means I don't feel like spending another £400.00 on a new amal I actually had another pre-monoblock carb which was too long to fit the mod 18, I cut 20mm out of the inlet tract with a hacksaw and glued the two pieces back together, a real bodge, but it works. I got my first run on my AJS 18, great fun. A thumbs up for JB weld.

Well photos show the bodge with the cut out piece on top, and the old dear herself, anybody recognise her?

No idea, unless the file is too large.
This is another easy way........(let me know if it isn't for you ;) ).

Go to this free hosting site:

and you get this:
