Hello again. I need to fit a bigger battery in The Beast to crank over the Dynastarter (see Lecky Leg thread). My question is what dimensions are the battery that would originally fit in this type of toolbox?

Does anyone know about lithium batteries?

I've had feedback about Lithium batteries and whilst they are very light and compact they seemingly don't last too well on a motorcycle. When new they're great but can and do just suddenly fall off a cliff and fail without warning!

Just a couple of idle thoughts over my Shreddies..........

I assume the Dynastart is 12V so perhaps two 6V in series would fit better rather than than a fatter 12V?
How much current does the Dynastart draw in starting mode? I'd guess at around 20 or 30 Amps so two paralleled 6V batteries would only deliver a start current of one 6V battery.

How about a battery jump start power pack? A quick Google brings up many from £25 to £100
Your battery compartment is the long flattish type and this one at £26 is only 15cm x 8cm x 2cm and delivers a start current of 200 Amps. A drawback would be that you'd need a 230V supply to recharge it so I guess it would be a total loss supply when in use.
You could possibly locate it under the seat as it can be fitted in any orientation. Perhaps wire it to the Dynastart just for starting and keep the alternator output fed to an 'ordinary' battery for ignition and lights. .....

I hope to have enough chemo recovery by Sunday/Monday to go out on the Yamaha before booking in MoT (due 28 April). I'll measure up the battery it uses. Although cranking over a four cylinder may be easier than a single!

I have, not surprisingly, the same battery box and it's off the Matchless at the moment so easy to take a look at fitment.

You could in theory have a 12V battery for riding. Then use a small jump pack for the starting bit. My jump pack from NoCo is changed via USB C so it could be charged as you ride.

My TTR250 and KLR650 use fairly small batteries. It's only the r100gs PD that has a big battery.

Job sorted everyone. I currently have a 12v 7ah battery which sits in the battery compartment. Another identical one will fit in the toolbox. Wire them up in parallel and you have 12v 14ah. Ta da!

Hi Chris, why not ask Kev which battery he uses. It seems to work well even without the valve lifter.
