It may not be widely known but if the person named on the ticket is registered as disabled or as a student, or (perhaps more importantly to many of us), is over 60 years old a 20% discount can be had on the DFDS Newhaven to Dieppe crossing. This discount has been available for around 40 years but DFDS don't make it obvious on their website.
The discount is given on the whole ticket cost regardless of whether any other person(s) on the ticket doesn't meet those criteria. The discount doesn't apply to cabins but it's only a 4hr crossing. Your age is confirmed by your DOB on your passport at the check-in kiosk.
The non-discounted fare can be found on the DFDS website but you cannot get the discount if booking online and have to book by phone and ask for it on:
0330 587 8787 (English spoken).
