With the current forms of spray lube for secondary chains available; is there any reason you could not use this on the primary chain?
And therefore no oil bath which typically leaks from the chain case halves.
If it works outside on the secondary chain for a fair period, then shouldn't it do a similar job when under cover.

The oil in the primary chaincase also lubricates the roller bearings around the clutch, so just spraying the chain would mean the clutch bearings would go dry.

The oil also lubricates the sprockets and shock absorber cam and helps to keep the chain cool. With the new improved type of seal from club spares the oil stays on the inside too!
