Headlight housing holes

Post by BrianDowning »

Hi All

My Model 8 has two holes on top on the headlight housing, both sides above the speedometer and between the switches. I've checked out every AJS I could find at the last rally and found that everyone else's was different than mine. I finally found a Matchless a couple days ago that had two red tiny covers made by MPAC (see attached photos). Are these original to the bike, and were they meant to light up when the electrical and headlights were turned on?

Regards, Brian

A google image search found a bike with a similar set up. But looks more like two red LEDs.

I'll have to check to see if there's wiring for lights inside the headlamp housing. I wonder if there are replacements available?

I don't think there is any wiring for them I think they use the glow from the back of the headlamp so you know its on

In the AJS LW Owners Manual for 1965 models there's reference to the red pips

and no wiring shown in the headlamp.

I wonder if some of these would over the holes and do the trick.

Good evening all,

new to the club so first of all hello!

I've been searching for info regarding the 2 red pips on my bike but hadn't seen anything until I spotted this thread, mine currently don't illuminate at all so some investigation is in order, not had chance to do much since acquiring this bike a while ago, apart form cleaning the carb and a new battery to get it running for a little play!
