Hiya,
A spotters badge on offer for anyone who can identify this bike. There's really not much to go on from the photo, so here's a little info:
My grandad owned it in the 30's, and was gutted when means testing meant that he had to sell it. He said that it was the first bike with an electric horn in the town. That's it.
I've looked at loads of AJS models, and wonder if it's an R6 or R8?
The reg plate is almost visible, it looks like it could be "RP xx32". Is there a way to trace ancient reg no's?

I believe RP is an old registration from Northamptonshire - Northampton.

I think you're right - the photo was taken in Kettering, so I guess he was likely the first owner of the bike?

I stretched out the number plate image in Photoshop and it looks like it says RP 8432

Excellent work Andrew, that's the number that I though too.
According to a helpful man at VMCC, that number would have been issued during 1930 he thinks?
If it's a 1930 model, the cybermotorcycle.com website lists the models: R4, R6, R8 , R9
So it's fair to say that one of those models is likely what my grandad is sat on.

.....I guess I'll need to collect one of each of them? Better not tell the wife just yet!
