First task, new centre stand, complete .. seems easier to raise the bike than my 16ms .. thanks to YKW ..

Now, kickstart is stiff .. guy at place I bought it said 'not enough turns on return spring .. don't think that is the cause ..

The lever doesn't move easily .. there is some friction over the whole range (not at all like the Burman box on my 16ms) .. in the top section of movement, the lever will stay wherever to put it, .. I admit more tension, (if that is possible) would probably fix (or cover up), the problem,

I guess I'll have, at least, to take the end cover off to sort it out, but I would like to know beforehand, what the trouble is likely to be

Either old return spring, or maybe someone has fitted a new bush and not reamed enough for a nice fit, or possibly fitted the wrong 'O' ring to try to prevent an oil leak. Best to fit an 'X' ring instead. PS who or what is YKW?

Will be putting bike on the bench in the next day or so, for electrickery work, so will also start investigating kick start ..

Where would I source the correct size X ring, should I go that route?

AMOC spares 040005X or AMC Classic Spares, I've found it well worth it.

got the end cover off, kickstart shaft moves freely so the drag must be something to do with the outer cover/bush/o ring ..

re the x ring ..

possibly silly question .. can the old o ring be removed and the x ring inserted without removing and replacing the kickstart shaft bush?

yes it can , once cover is off just hook it out
If there is too much wear even the X type will not fix your leak !

Don't have a leak .. just a v stiff kickstart (free when cover removed .. ) but noticed that the old o ring is a bit shredded .. so though best to change it .. can also check for stiffness once ring is out ..
