My 1937 G5 is fitted with a centre stand, currently this is retracted by two rather lacklustre springs that are secured on a bolt on the rear mudguard. The 1937 spares list only shows one spring and there is no mention of centre stands at all for the pre-war bikes in any versions of the F. Neill service manuals or the 1937 riders manual. Incidentally, for 1938 onwards the bike should be fitted with the usual rear stand.
Does anyone have any description or photos of how the centre stand spring should be fitted please?
