Girder Forks dismantling

Hi Everyone
I'm rebuilding a 1929 M6 and am currently at the 'take everything apart and see what needs doing' phase.
I've never worked on girder forks before and am a bit cautious about any stored energy that may be in the spring when I release it.
Is this something to be concerned about :?: If so, what is the technique for releasing the spring gradually :?:
Cheers
Tim

It depends how you wish to use the bike. Tighten it for high speed. You may not want it solid as a rock. Loosen it off, you may not want it bouncing too much. do a few tests round bends to get it right.

Welcome, Tim.
I know little about girder forks but there's this guide to renovation in Christians Archive which may be useful.
