Hi everyone, be gentle my first post
I recently acquired a 1952 g9 which is confusing me. I found numbers 8865 on the main frame by the seat which isn't corresponding with whats on the log book.
I've done a club dating request with that number, only information available thats its a lightweight, obviously its not.
Please can anyone give me guidance on this?

I suspect the frame number should be "A8865" - I suggest you send an email to the Machine Dating office (dating@jampot.com) and he will be able to advise accordingly.

I didn't think that the "A" frame numbers were introduced until 1954... but no doubt the dating officer will confirm.

As suggested send me a clear photo of the frame number you may find the extra digit you may be missing as 1952 bikes had 5 digits unless its a Comp frame. yes the letter A was introduced in 1954.

Thanks for the help. A bit more scraping found an extra digit which comes back as 1952 g9. Such a relief
However, the log book shows S2/G9/5715. Any ideas what this refers to?

I beleive it did originally had a side car. I wonder if it relates to that?

Have you or whoever entered the info on the V5 misread '52' as 'S2' ?
When vehicle records were computerised by the the DVLA (in 1979?) teams of temps were employed to transfer the paper records to the computer and mistakes did occur.
Is the number stamped on the engine 5715? It looks to me like an engine number for a 1952 bike which would be.......

52 is how the 1952 year is stamped on the engine.

An 'S' for sidecar was never used in the frame or engine number by the factory (who wouldn't know or care whether a sidecar was going to be fitted).
