Hi everyone
Just bought an AJS and I am trying to find which model I've got .
Frame 16334
Engine 60/G2CS5140
Log book says 1962 but I'm guessing the 60 prefix to the engine number indicates a 1960 engine

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Norman. The only way to find out what you actually have would be to contact the dating officer.
16334 looks to be a late 1962 14CSR or G2CSR.
The engine I presume is a G2 CS 1960.

The combination of a 62 CSR frame (and cycle parts) and a CS engine would be pretty difficult to achieve to line up the gearbox to the rear wheel sprocket without altering something from the original set up. The CS crankcases are machined differently to the other G2 models and offset by about half an inch the the driveside to provide extra clearance for the larger section tyre used on the CS. To mate the two together properly either the crankcases will have been altered or the wheel spacers changed or your cycle parts may be from a CS also?

Its was the model type I was trying to find but I suppose it's a bit of a mixture .

I know little about the Lightweight range but I think the 60/G2 reference on the engine is for a 1960 Matchless 250. The model '14' would be an Ajay 250.

As griffin mentioned, to find out what the bike was (or at least the marque assigned to your frame number) when it left the factory you need to use the club's Dating service. See here:

It's a mix! That's a CS ('scrambler') crankcase - which ordinarily wouldn't fit correctly in a standard frame (as pointed out above). I don't know how to identify a CS frame. However, you should be able to find out what engine & gearbox you have. The CS engine has a very high compression piston with a high-peak crown. This is a photo of the standard and CSR pistons. The CS one is higher still. The primary drive and clutch are different:
