What model have I got?

Post by Roger Meredith. »

I've recently acquired a Matchless M/C here in Lilongwe, Malawi. It has the following details:

Cylinder 1
Engine No. G80/134108
Frame No. A 84837

Can any of you recommend a spare parts book and a workshop manual for this machine? Thanks very much, Roger Meredith

Roger,
From the numbers you quote, and the details in Roy Bacon book "AJS & Matchless - the Postwar Models", it seems you have a 1963 Model Matchless G80.

A not real common and not well known model - spark ignition on the last of the Matchless big single motors, in the last all Matchless machine.

Next year has Norton forks and hubs, and its just possible your bike may this model, only reference to pics will tell which it is.

On the General forum here, Les Smith has the details of Bruce Main Smith, suppliers of photocopy manuals and parts lists. A little searching will find which copies are applicable to your model/year, probably your best starting point.

hopethishelps,
Rohan.

There is now a link to BMS in this site's links.

All manuals are listed, priced and available on line.
