Maybe Clive could invite answers as to what the problem is likely to be by making it a Quiz question? .
Are you suggesting that Clive is in some way related to the Quizmaster?
Not related but I do have a telepathic communication channel. Perhaps Spriddler could PM me with his proposal......
Is a PM really necessary? I thought you'd already know as you're telepathic and I've been thinking deeply about it for days.

Clearly my telepathic powers are pathetic.

Thanks to the forum, I've established contact with Simon. I'll have a look on Saturday and report back...

Dear All, Paul got it going, so I am very grateful for his help and expertise. Turned out that there were 2 further problems. While the engine was timed mechanically correct , I had set the Wipac ignition to the wrong ramp on the points cam. The other issue was a duff spark plug that worked outside the engine but not when installed. I did try several plugs but with the other ignition problem, the result was the same, so I had ruled out the plug. Thanks to all for comments and support and especially to Paul, I had run out of ideas: The bike now starts first time.

Good news Simon and thanks for telling us the outcome - doesn't always happen. Now ride the thing and er, join the club 'cos you can see it makes sense!
