I put out an ad for a rear brake plate but had little response so after picking up the rusted out one I had and realising just how heavy it was I picked out a large lump of aluminium I had hanging about and decided to make one :-
I made a few mistakes along the way

But I'm pleased with the results.

P.S. Thanks to Rob who offered me a brake plate as I was finishing off the machining!!

I now need to sort out a brake arm - I have two :-
The stripped one appears to have been extended and has the brake rod pivot pin on the centre line
But the painted one has the pin off set - is this correct?

Could the clean one be rear & dirty one be front?

Just a small point. The slotted boss that locks the brake plate into the swing arm to prevent it from rotating... is that aluminium or steel? only they are prone to wear and I wonder is aluminium is up to the task

It's a lovely job you've made of the brake plate. My future son-in-law graduated with a first in his Masters for Engineering before getting onto a graduate scheme with Jaguar Land Rover. I asked if he could buy tools via JLR at a discounted price. "I don't need any. Everything is built by robots" he said! Hopefully we will still have engineers in the future who can get close to this level of work. Cheers. Bruce.

Thanks for the compliments but really - this is OK for a homemade attempt but not to a professional standard - honest!

Beautiful work there! I wish I had the skills & tools to do stuff like that.
