I might Janet!

Ken, I am disgusted with myself! I'd like to be able to say it was a typo' but that wouldn't be true! 'Obeyance' is a perfectly good English word though and is definately not one of those dreadful Americanisms.

The adage I use as my signature was used originally, as I understand it, by Gp Cpt Harry Day who was Douglas Bader's CFI. He certainly used obeyance and not obediance but either way it is a fine adage to live by!

Have just returned home from playing our last cricket match of the season. We managed to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory which, I fear, is what we'll also do in the fifth test!

Either way Roland, the meaning was clear, which is enough, I was merely being pompous for frivolous reasons[:o)]

I'm trying hard Ken, I'm already halfway through a bottle of red wine after spending half the afternoon trying to repair my neighbours car which is, quite honestly, past it's sale by date.[:(!]

Having re-read 'Reach for the Sky'. the quotation is as I related, except that I had 'fools' and 'wise men' in the wrong order. However, some web sites attribute the quotation to Bader and not Day, so we are hardly likely to agree. Having searched six online dictionaries, including American versions 'obeyance' does not feature at all.

Janet, as my bottom and associated pipework has received much attention of late. I think I will forego your interesting suggestion.
