If you have the machine to cut a recess in the front
cover you can then fit a32x25x7 lipped oilseal
if not remove outer cover take out o ring fill with silicone replace oring when dry replace cover

Gavin,
Have a look at the Norton Owners Club web page. There is an article there that descibes a cheap solution to your problem using what appears to be an X-ring. This is similar to an O-ring but it has the effect of a double lipped seal and is supposed to be a 100% fix. It quotes the part number which is readily available from your local bearing trader. Also it's cheap!
Regards,
Dave.

nce from a bearing supplier is AS 214. I brought about a dozen a year or so ago and handed them out at the section night. They fit without machining and since then nobody has had the usual leaks. Cost - £0.93 each plus VAT

Biscuit. I have ordered, and recieved (next day service), your recommended oil seals for the AMC gearbox kick start and look forward to fiting one sometime in the future. However I have since found a copy a Jampot Technical Topics article, edited by Simon Hoskins but writen by Ray Spencer (Multiplan). He quotes an availale width dimension of 0.205 ins available in the housing i.e. not enough to accomade the 0.25 of the quoted oil seal. Can you add anything to this information or must I suck it find out when I strip the cover - and remove the bush as its very dificult to measure anything acurately with the bush in.

I machine the end of the bush to give me the required depth. If the bush is a good fit it is done in situ, I have had a couple of loose ones and I shorten these out of the case.
