early and late valve springs

Post by Don Madden »

I cannot pretend to be an expert on this topic but have encountered similar problems. I found the earlier hair springs with the ends fitted into the block have shorter bottom ends than the tray type.

I could not fit later springs into the block without shortening the ends as they protruded & prevented the block from seating.

I tried the earlier, short end springs with trays, but they would not stay put, needing the long ends to stabilize them.

Hope this helps. Cheers, Don.

Interesting that you tried that Don.
I am playing about with iron head hairpins to go in my G90 as the original are a pig to fit, with very little room for them to move about in,
and unobtainable as specific to that model.
seems to me that the iron head ones fit closer together, than the later ones.
What exactly happened to yours?
