Hi all, re (M2151S) gearbox
noticed the kick-start on Matchless TCS G80 is not engaging at the top anymore, so gives a shorter kick stroke.
Is the most likely cause because the kick start Quadrant has lost a few teeth?
What's the views please and how difficult is it to replace?

Re: Kick start G80 TCS
No there is no kickstart quadrant in an AMC box. The kickstart shaft fits in an internal 'ratchet' in the first gear with a pawl and spring. It's probably a worn pawl and weak pawl spring. Can be caused by a weak kickstart return spring allowing the kickstart to flop down when going over bumps. Not a bad idea to renew the kickstart spring while you're in there. Plus an X ring seal for the shaft to stop that annoying leak.

Re: Kick start G80 TCS
Thanks that's very helpful,
If I get the parts are there any instructions or videos you are aware of on how to dismantle and re assemble.
I have a pretty good engineering background but not tackled a gearbox like this one before. Cheers Simon

Re: Kick start G80 TCS
Yes there are lots of info on it in our own archives, also Christian's archives here: http://archives.jampot.dk The best one for me has been Old Brits 'Assembling the Commando Gearbox'. Unfortunately my download seems to have lost all the excellent photos. It isn't difficult but the roller can be tricky to locate. Sometimes takes a minute or two but other times a lot longer. Don't forget a new gasket plus spare and the O rings are definately worth replacing with X rings.
