Anyone know where I can get a complete steering head bearing set for an early G2 with Teledraulics, AKA James forks?? I see the club spare scheme lists various bit , but I don't think any are correct for mine.
TIA

Not able to help but I am not sure the Teledraulics which were fitted to the heavyweights are the same as the James forks. One of the lightweight buffs will know.

Re: Steering head bearings.
Clive is correct. The early lightweights had James forks and the later ones had teledraulics like the early heavyweights, ie 1-1/8" if I recall correctly. I suggest you take a trip to Denmark and look through "Christian's Archives", http://archives.jampot.dk in particular, the parts lists. http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_lists There are several for lightweights but there were several changes of parts over the years. It should help you to know which parts you need.
Happy reading.

Re: Steering head bearings.
Thanks for that Clive, I confused myself somewhere, my forks are indeed the lightweight type and not teledraulics. They are though 1 1/4 inch diameter fitted to a 1959 G2 as shown in fig 23 on page 81 of Neill's AJS and matchless singles.

I will trawl those archives in search of part numbers Janet, thanks.

Has someone fitted a set of later 250 csr forks to your machine ? I believe this was a common upgrade as the original models had James type forks which were a bit weedy for these bikes.

Re: Steering head bearings.
Hi Chris, my standard 1959 G2 does have the weedy original forks, I think I confused myself somewhere by calling them teledraulics. I do though also have a 1963 G2 CSR with teles on it so I may have to rob them. On first glance though it doesn't look like the races will fit the frame or the yolks without some mods. Also I am trying not to rob too many hard to get bits as I plan to build the CSR up into a runner again if I live long enough.ChrisTheChippy wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 11:07 am Has someone fitted a set of later 250 csr forks to your machine ? Hi Rob, I see your "centre stand" alert is working well, I may well do that but my shopping list is long enough at the moment, and I need the exercise

Thanks,

Re: Steering head bearings.
Well deep joy
, Kempton this past weekend turned up trumps in the search for a frame race, someone called Roy I think, who had a load of AMC stuff including a box full of tempting lightweight gear advised me to try "Daves" stall. After a bit of searching I found Dave and Eureka he had one and charged me all of 5 quid for it.
It feels like a bit of a breakthrough to be honest as I have been searching for over a year now and I think it is the last specialist part I need, maybe.
I see a few other members posted about their visits to Kempton as well, maybe next time anyone is planning to go we should meet up, or is that already a thing??
Anyway thanks to all concerned
