AJS Isaba 125cc: Any service manuals or information?

This area is for discussion/information on the "modern" AJS motorcycles manufactured in China from 2006 onwards.

AJS Isaba 125cc: Any service manuals or information?

Post by lewisham_phil »

I have just bought a 2020 AJS 125cc Isaba for my daughter: It was on a whim slightly, but it was a great price and has only done 3500 miles, and is in reasonable condition, and the engine sounds sweet.
It's a great looking bike, a bit of a Ducati Scrambler copy obviously: It handles well, and once I've serviced it and sorted the inevitable corrosion on some of the poorly finished components, it'll make a nice learner.
I have a Guzzi V7, and I like to service bikes myself, but I am rather shocked at the dearth of information on the AJS; I assumed there would be downloadable manuals of some sort available?
I'd appreciate it if anyone can point me towards a source of information for this, or any bike running the same spec. motor. Is the generic Haynes Manual for chinese 125's the only option? I've found a manual for the AJS 125 'Highway Star' but that looks like a completely different engine.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards

Phil

I got a Haynes manual for Chinese 125cc motorcycles. Many have similar engines. However you could get it here

Thanks Spookefoote, but they're all out of stock of the Haynes manual. I considered the AJS Isaba User Manual, but in my experience they never have much useful information beyond tyre pressures and oil capacities.
The Isaba seems unusual, as it seems to have a completely different engine to the current crop of AJS's, for whatever reason. Was it deemed unreliable?!
I've come across an old Suzuki EN125 manual, which seems to be what the Isaba engine is based upon: Obviously the general bike information, carburettor etc. isn't relevant, but hopefully the basic engine servicing, including valve clearances etc. should be OK? If it's not against the rules, I shall try and link it here...

Thanks to Starvos-2310 on the motorcycleforum.com for the information.

I should say that I'm currently going on purely visual identification of the motor as being similar; the layout and position of various components etc, the general look and angle of the barrel even.. so I'd appreciate some confirmation if anyone is any the wiser!

This little Suzuki engine is apparently also used in the following bewildering array of similar chinese 125's:
Direct Bikes 125cc Enduro S [DB125GY-2B], 125cc Hurricane [DB125R]
Lexmoto Adrenaline 125 [XFLM125GY-2B], Valiant 125 [XF125R]
Mash Seventy Five 125 [SEVENTY FIVE 125]
Pulse Adrenaline 125 [XF125GY-2B]
Qingqi Sport
SFM ZX125, ZZ125
Sinnis Apache 125
Blade 125 [QM125GY(OFF ROAD)]
Cafe 125 [QM125-2X]
Retrostar 125 [QM125-2X-R]
Stealth 125 [QM125-2D]
Trackstar 125 [QM125GY-2D]
Max 2 125 [QM125-2V]
Superbyke RMR 125 [RMR125], RSR125
Suzuki EN125-2, EN125-2A
