Moving when on centre stand
I've just bought a AJS Model 30, 1956, and when I run it on the centre stand, it wanders away backwards. Does anyone know the reason for this? Thanks

Re: Moving when on centre stand
hi john ;
idle speed is too high , once it goes above a certain revs it will wander backwards .
its the inertia from the crank rotation .
i also have a 1956 model 30 and am used to this , but basically when you start it up you may , like me , sit it on centre stand to warm up and youll increase the idle speed at first on the adjuster on carb so it doesnt conk out , but as it warms up the revs creep up , so if you dont back the idle revs off bit by bit as it warms up it will end up with an idle speed high enough that it then makes the bike walk backwards .
youll find if you rev it up without sitting on it on the centre stand it will do this as well .
lucky they dont actually jump around ha ha .
have you ever seen a field marshall tractor , now they can almost jump up and down and quite often when ticking over you can see them bouncing on their tyres .
the model 30 /G11 is a fantastic bike though .
cheers

Re: Moving when on centre stand
Welcome to your "new" bike!
The twins have a habit of walking on the stand, it's just caused by the frequency of engine vibration and most obvious with twins on smooth surfaces.
Is the tickover a bit high?
Edit: What Ian said!

A lot of bikes do this on a smooth surface and just about all do when revved up. Never thought of it as a problem. Put is on a square of old carpet.
