Sad news that Bill Cakebread has passed away
Bill did so much to document the history of his time at AMC , and his books were so full of details of how things really were.
Condolences to his family

Great shame, very knowledgeable person about AMC and helped me a lot with the Archives. All his books are a great read.

Re: Bill Cakebread
A very sad loss; one of the last of an era. His book 'Motorcycle Apprentice' is an engaging insight into the progress of a lad through the factory trades.
Bill came to our section many years ago with factory tester Alan Jones (RIP) enthralling us with information and mischievous anecdotes about life at the factory. I really regret that we didn't video it.

I've read especially the Motorcycle apprentice book over and over again. I think he caught the life and atmosphere of a working class lad and family in postwar London very well. Me off course not even born then.
