Valve stem sizes

Post by ChrisTheChippy »

I am just in the process of overhauling my cylinder heads. ( ajs 650 csr 1961) . I can't seem to find any info regarding size of valve stems or internal dimensions of valve guides . All I really need to know is the size of the valve stem when new . I should then be able to judge if they are worn or the guide is worn . I think the guides may be borderline not a massive amount of play but there was a lot of carbon up the stem of one of the exhaust valves so that ones suspect.

Thanks Duncan. I have that book. The info is for the 1955 - 1956 models .
Can I take it that valve stem and guide sizes remained the same? Mines a 61 csr .

Chris, just measure the un-worn part of the valve stem, if the valve doesn't look scored its more likely the guide is worn and not the valve. Guide is softer than the valve.
