1953 AJS

Im looking to buy a basket case from 1953. It has a frame and paperwork, VIN, and a box of bits.
Frame number 08408. thats all i have. no model on the registration documents. Its a rigid frame.
What am i looking at model wise. thanks for you knowledge.

If it is a rigid frame its most lkely to be a 350 or 500 single. If you look at the dating page it will be possible to get an online dating of the frame. If the engine has a number it will include the model type but a box of bits could be any combination of engine and frame over the years.

The engine number may be in the format of year/model/serial number. Of course the frame may not match, but its a start.

May be best to join the club as and get some dating advice before you buy as all is not correct.

Follow Ros advice. 70 years of bodgery can do a lot to a bike. get it dated by the club and you will have firm foundations for your build. Its a cheap price to pay
