Re: Intake rubber
I don't remember seeing a list of serial numbers for the AMC box but it will begin with an 'M' . The intake rubbers have been hard to find for years. Best to adapt something like a car hose, steering boot etc.

Is cp gear box better over burman b52
Hello
I am doing up by ajs g20,as i jad a bitter experience on burman B 52 gearbox while riding on an up hill wherein the selector got jammed between 1st and second gear, one of the mechanic advised me to go for cp gear box which as per him is more reliable.
I wanted an experts opinion should i consider this option.
Thnx

Re: Intake rubber
i like the CP box , early ones are grease boxes , later ones oil
Slow gear changes so not really a racing box

It all depends on what you have available locally, B52's are normally reliable but if you cant source repair parts fit what you have , I would add that internals of a CP gearbox are not as chunky as a B52 but they would have been fitted to 500 twins prior to 1952 so must be up to the job.

Re: Amc gear
The question of AMC gearbox date has cropped up a few times but it seems that there are no authoritative records. Unlike the Burman 'boxes they don't have any date coding included in their serial numbers. It appears that for what seems like a random period of time some had 'R', 'S', or 'T' after the number which is believed to refer to 'Road' (it is thought not to mean 'Race'), 'Scrambles' and 'Trials'. There seems to be no official explanation (unless anyone knows differently) but there was a tendency at the factory for people to specialise in certain jobs so the random addition of the suffix may simply be due to a different guy doing the stamping at the factory in occasional shifts or covering for absence or sickness of the regular guy(s).josephnalkara wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 2:35 pm What will be Amc gear box series number for 1959 ajs g20
An informal attempt was made by Rob Harknett (RIP) with a spreadsheet to which people could add their gearbox numbers but to my knowledge this is all that resulted..........

About the air intake hose, there's a few different ones. I've got a NOS hose for 1955 twins, it's an one year only item. Irregular shape in all directions. I won't use it as I managed to make a good replacement from a hose for Ukraine Dneprs (!). Will keep the NOS hose for refrence if I'd find means for making new pattern ones.
