I have access to what appears to be an old G3. From a first look I've found what appears to be the frame number (A?)21408. I've been told it's a 1947 bike....maybe? Can anyone help identify this bike from just the frame number?

According to Bacon's restoration book number 21408 (no prefix) does fall in the 1947/48 range

However, If it has an 'A' prefix it'll most likely be post '52.

'A' is the prefix to frame numbers from mid 1953 onwards.

A21408 is 1955 model year.

Thanks for the replies. I think it doesn't have a prefix which would make it 47/48 which confirms what I was told.......by the son-in-law of the deceased owner.
Is a rigid frame but I think maybe has a later engine fitted with magneto behind the cylinder??? We need to get it out from where it's buried amongst all the accumulation of the ex-owners "stuff".

Now the question is, engine number 6420B could well be a later engine, is that so?

And the piece of string question is, as a basket case wht might the value be? Sorry I've no pictures but it looks to be all there...ish. I'm guessing only a few hundred quid???

Is that the entire engine number from the top l/h side of the c/case where it meets the cylinder? I could put up a photo of how an engine number should look but since you aren't a subscribing club member you wouldn't be able to see it it. (I suppose you weren't able to view the pics of frame number sequences that I posted in an earlier reply).
Since you don't know what to look for and we don't know what it looks like it's pretty pointless (and timewasting) trying to guess its value. Photos and positive identification needed.

A complete bike in almost any condition is going to at least £750 , as Neville says you will get much more useful information as a member . Its only £26 for digital and £30 for paper copy of magazine
Even a simple basic hand paint job and restoration to running condition is likely to cost over a £1000 ( bearings , rims ,spokes, tyres, chains etc)
