It's interesting what you say about about misreporting. I've noticed, when you read an article about something that you actually know about or have been involved in... It's often incorrect and it makes you wonder about all the other things you read :)

"see also Welsh test picture 39" Which picture is this?

It's a bit addictive this... Starting with a photo and seeing what you can find out.

Found this painting which ties in with the 'Angus' photo and the photo of VLF403 with Bob Manns.

Haven't come across the reference image referred to in the caption, but the registration numbers of the other two bikes are clear enough. The caption suggests the bike in the middle is the 500, but somehow I imagine the two consecutively numbered bikes would be the 350s.

VLF403 is on the DVLA site as a Matchless 350, but the other two are not found.
This is Wally Wyatt Jack Walby Jack or Peter Culver and Bob Mann’s - such a shame when misinformed- it’s clearly not DC or HV for those aware - Bob Mann’s was Sales Manager at AMC and also Works Rider - he was loading the ISDT bikes 1958 his being VLC646 350 also pictured that year in Welsh 2/3 day ISDT test 58 rider nr 39 he was 220 in ISDT - VLF403 SId Wicken 350 and Dave Curtis 500 VLF402 check on DLVA for DC 500 matchless but he may have used this a scramble given ref to LH oil tank etc Dies DC know as h3 is still with us? Dad could and probably should have parted with £100 to retain 403 but sadly didn’t he regretted it but was sold off

I looked through what photos I could find on the Internet of the 1958 ISDT.
There were a few captioned 'Sid Wickens'... So that was VLF403!
The registration number exists still exists on the DVLA website, is the bike still in your family?
Sadly no he could have bought it with his trade supported prize money but choose to put into good use on building our famil6 home at Orpington- like Tim Gibbes he used his to buy a better Van. So man6 of the 50/60 works riders regretted not keeping there works bikes. Dad after AMC stopped theMatchless trials team in 58 was moved onto AMC FB oddly supported and prepared by Commerfords Reg May - outward progression with directors who had boots in both camps
