Hi Pharisee,

As a newbie to the daftness of the matchless tank rubber mounting methodology, I have just learned the hard way why you should barely tighten the bolts. Yes, I’ve punched a hole in the bottom of my tank :-(

I thought I’d measured the crush on the rubbers sufficient that the bolt head would bed down on the sleeve - clearly I got it wrong……..

I like your solution with a blind threaded insert brazed in. When I get my 1944 G3l tank repaired I shall be doing likewise. My tank specialists are geniuses but they are not cheap and I’m not going to risk/cannot afford this happening again!

JPH - I did resort to your fix as too short of time to do the one I posted earlier. Working a treat even with mild steel bolts.

IvoryMajor - there should've been a metal tube/sleeve inserted inside the rubbers, at least for the 1956 model there is, 014998. The correct length bolts (from the Club or AMC Classics) will then not pierce the bottom of the tank. Bit of a hard way to find out and sorry for the pain in your pocket. Maybe these weren't used for 1946?
