Hi,
My rear brake drum has a groove that goes all the way around. Do I need to replace it, or can it safely be used with a set of fresh brake pads?
I'm attaching a picture, the tip of the screwdriver is in the groove.
Thanks!
Chris

I'd use it. If the linings are not unduly worn or contaminated I refit them as well as the performance of new linings is often disappointing. You're no doubt aware that a packing washer can be fitted under each 'mushroom' thrust pin to bring part worn linings closer to the drum when at rest. Any steel washer of appropriate thickness can be used for the spacer.
