Within the Forum system we have 49 different "Bots" registered as users. By having them registered, their access to the Forum can be controlled to ensure they only get access to certain useful areas. For example, they can read the "General Topics" area, but they cannot access the "Adverts" area.

That's a good point! The common bots (like Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) are all pre-registered when the software was installed. The less common ones don't get in at all - mainly because they don't know the club chairman's name!
