Question Speedo/Dial Light

Evening folks, just wondering whether the speedo on my model 20 should illuminate when the lights are turned on? Only noticed after an evening club night a couple of days ago as its the first time I'd ridden it at night (yes it was cold)

Yes there should be a small bulb holder wired to the same source on the light switch as the rear light. However the bulb is below the works and unless the inside of the speedo is painted white or otherwise very reflective very little illumination occurs. Earlier Ex wd speedos have no hole for the light and were not illuminated.

If yours has a bulb and you do replace it the original ones had tube shaped glass. I have in the past fitted one with a bulb shaped glass only to find the speedo stopped working as the glass interfered with the works. This is not always the case but if you fit a bulb shaped one and the speedo stops working ........
