Dynamo
Hi, I’ve just purchases a m18 (1949) which has been in a garage used for the last 40 years. The only item that has been removed is the Dynamo, which I believe would have been a Lucas type?
Do any of you ladies/gents know what should be fitted including sprocket size etc and could you also enlighten me as to whether they slot into a cylindrical housing as is so this is missing to. Once I know I can try and find all the parts required.
Many thanks
Jon

Re: Dynamo
This Lucas list shows the generators fitted year by year:

I would personally avoid E3AR as it's a feeble contraption compared to E3N for a variety of reasons, more mechanical than electrical. They interchange, being the two versions of the short E3 dynamo with a taper for the drive end. Magdyno ones are parallel-shafted and keyed for a pinion so won't do. Pretty much all parts are available for E3Ns.
For fitting, don't they just slot through the engine plates, with the drive in the primary case (with some dedicated fasteners which I think are available from the Club)? Don't know how many teeth on the sprocket though I'm afraid. 13 or 14 maybe?

Re: Dynamo
Hi Jon, page 42 of the spares list may help but you will need to convert some of the part numbers:

Re: Dynamo
while I agree with Groily , that he E3AR may be the original and later types were improved , I would go with what ever you can get hold of easily
I have a E3AR-A05-1 on my 1946 G80L and other that replacing bearings and armature many years ago has proved OK (triggers broom from only fools and horses)

If it's of any help to know what you're looking for this is the E3AR dynamo from my '47 Model 18.
Note the arrow that denotes that it 's for anti-clock rotation.

Re: Dynamo
It could be worth contacting one of the magneto repairers sometimes they have units for sale without an exchange, I have brought an N1 Magneto from APL before and a dynamo.
The sprocket you need is this: https://www.amoc-parts.com//store/comer ... duct=20844 sometimes they have two slots in them, these are for the locking washer https://www.amoc-parts.com//store/comer ... duct=20751
