As it's a Matchless it will be a variant of the G3 range, if it were an AJS it would be one of the Model 16 range. Mechanically identical, just the badges and logos were different.

It's a Matchless G3 with "short stroke" engine dimensions of 72x85.5mm. They are quite rare and surprisingly quick for a 350.

If you mean 'name', it may be referred to as a G3 Mercury. No-one knows them by these names, it's just a G3 (as it has been since about 1935). Yes they were short stroke. It looks like a very good bike, hope you get it!

There is a very tidy looking 1963 G3 short stroke for sale in the Brooklands Auction at Ascot Racecourse on the 3rd of March.
