Final update my cramp idea worked, So that is now ready to be fitted, I did ring the tank sprayer but he denied using any air, So it must be magical ,But any way thanks for all your suggestions ,A final trip to the Jampot spares next week and it should be ready for its first fire up in many years. Sorry about the cock up with the photo's .

You moved the tank mounts in 1 1/4 inches using a clamp without damaging the paintwork? I am surprised the tank can flex that much without stressing the paint. It does however suggest air pressure may have been used to get rid of the dent. Our local club member who is a panel beating specialist amongst other skills would probably have cut out the bottom of the tank, knocked out the dent, welded the bottom back in and then pressure tested it. If you can flex it in with clamps I guess air pressure can flex it out. Not of course that I am doubting you repairer only his memory, and possibly desire not to have to redo the work on the tank?

when i popped the dent out in one of my tanks with air i wrapped up and roped up the outside of the tank and it didnt spread apart .
a smaller ratchet strap or two would probably be enough to squeeze a tank in a little if the ratchet was under the gap between the tank .

Thank you Clive, I agree with your points, The tank on my previous model 31 regularly sprung a leak and I became quite good at repair, I would not have tried this way of getting over the problem with this tank. But considering the good condition of the G12 tank, and a gamble it being fresh paint, and a sprinkle of nothing to lose, and it worked.
