Not sure why they were known as double adult sidecars, as I can't remember ever seeing two adults in one. It was nearly always Dad driving, Mum on the pillion and the kids in the sidecar.
In the '50's, my Dad had a BSA side valve single (can't remember which one), with single adult Swallow sidecar. We used to go on holiday to Clacton from St Albans. I seem to remember enjoying the experience, except that there was no in car entertainment (apart from an I Spy book and predicting the bumps) and no way of asking ''are we nearly there yet?".
