Hello,
Does anybody out there know what the thread size is of the stud that secures the silencer on a 1960 AJS 18s. It's the one at the offside pillion footrest.
I don't have access to the bike as i work abroad, but i want to order a die to re-cut the threads. I know it's Cycle thread but i'm not sure of the diameter (1/2,3/8 ?).
The old nut has dropped off and the exhaust bracket has mashed the threads up.
Kind regards.
Nick

The '54 G3LS and the '56 G11 both have 3/8" studs at this point.

Thanks Alan,
Cycle thread die's don't seem to be the cheapest item on the market so i will get them as and when needed.

Nick,
Try Tracy Tools for taps and dies, they are advertised in the Old Bike Mart and are very reasonable in price. I bought a full set of both a couple of years ago and, although they are not top quality, they are still going strong.
No connection by the way!

Why not just removed the old stud and fit a new one. I think it maybe 5/16" cycle if its the same as my 1960 G9.
