AJS Single Hub

Post by Peter Finney. »

Hello, I have a friend with a 16H AJS Single This machine has a 1958 Frame with a 1960 Engine. He is in the process of tidying it up, as such he decided to get the Front Wheel rechromed and new spokes fitted to it. this was duly done, but when he came to fit it into thr Front forks, he found the wheel to be about 1/2 inch off centre (but true), The Hub has been fitted centrally to the wheelrim, but I was wondering whether it needed to be offset?
I would be grateful for some advice on this matter?
I was also wondering of the correct arrangement of the Hub Spindle and Bearings to ensure correct alignment of the front wheel?
I trust that someone out there may be able to assist.

Thanks in Anticipation,
Regards

AJS Single Hub

Peter,
having assembled and spoked up a similar wheel myself I can't think of any pitfalls in assembling the hub and my hub is central too. This may be a stupid suggestion but have you fitted the wheel with the brake plate on the left as it should?
