Emgo shock absorbers

Post by Kenww »

Hi,
I've seen replacement jampot style shocks at £125 a pair.
Listing states 57 onward was there a chance to the fitting in 57?

Yes the change was from Jampots to Girlings with clevis bottom fitting as in the photo. Jampots had clevis fitting top and bottom.

Sort of linked - I put a pair of these on my M31 after just one of the original springs curiously went very soft. Theyre not a bad unit but I would prefer something a bit stronger as the bike is always used 2-up and we are both bigger than folk used to be 60 years ago  Did AMC ever produce sidecar rated springs or should I be looking towards having a pair made - or even supplementing the current springs with a half inch acetal spacer? I did that on the rear monoshock of our BMW R100RT winter bike and it improved matters (the summer use BMW got a new Hagon, but difficult to justify buying a pair at the price :D )

Why, what are you wanting to fit them on? Edit: I was replying to Ken about the Emgo Shock absorbers. May have some sidecar springs though.

Assuming the spring length is the same as originals you can use the following to identify what you might need/was available/original specification:

See page 63 for spring colours:
