New 1933 project

Post by Tazmantic »

Hi all been on the forum quite a while now as built from a box of bits a 1955 G3 and got it registered and on the road start of this year, I've now plunged in with what is probably a much bigger project a 1933 model 12 250 big port sloper and I'm thinking any info and parts are going to be like hens teeth it has come with lots of bits but what's my chances of finding parts or even pictures of the bike as I've been on google and they seem very scarce.

Cheers

Sounds an interesting project. There is a manual and parts list in Cristian's Archives http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Owners_m ... Manual.pdf
http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... s_List.pdf
You're lucky it's illustrated, many 30's parts lists weren't.

Thanks Dave, but I presume parts are going to be rare? I take it the club wouldn't have any? and does anyone know how many were made as I think it was a 1 year wonder again.

The only parts the club will have will be things like footrest rubbers which may be the same as your bike's. You can check on the conversion master parts list. http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... ements.pdf
What parts are missing?

Thanks I’ll have a look, mag and sprocket though I may have a mag but think it could be the wrong direction :headbang: and the sprocket looks a special apart from that I’m not sure as this one is all in bits :| may end up another special

Is it the one illustrated on page 4 here:

http://archives.jampot.dk/promotional/S ... ochure.pdf

Lots of techy info if you scroll to the end of the brochure.

You've probably found the Owners Manual which shows the 'special' mag sprocket vernier adjustment arrangement on page 14 here:

Hi spriddler yes that’s the one though mines hand change and not looking like that lol and yes that’s the sprocket but the chances of finding one is slim I should think, I did find one was sold on eBay last year but it went for big money :o

In 1952 AMC started a new parts list numbering series. So for a pre 1952 bike you now have to see if the old part no. has a new part no.
You can do that using this book I put top of the parts list books here .http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Spares_l ... ements.pdf
In 2013 I went through club spares and found about 300 pre 1952 parts in stock. These will be mainly standard small fittings.
We have a Prewar e group with members making some parts. If you would like to join this e group send me your e mail address to prewar@jampot.com
I will activate the group web site to send you an invite to join. Rob Harknett prewar officer

I am (slowly) working on a 1928 AJS K12. I got a vernier sprocket from kingpincomponents on ebay. Its for a Rudge but had the same number of teeth. The holes in the sprocket and backing plate are a slightly larger number but that just gives finer adjustment of the timing if needed and its all hidden so the fact that it is a weird modern colour does not matter. Cost £80
I had my clockwise horseshoe mag reversed to work anti-clockwise by Paul Lydford APL magnetos, reasonably priced.
So provided you have plenty of folding money its possible to track down parts, good luck and I hope you work faster than me, mine was purchased 1993.
