Gearbox felt seal

Post by PCollin »

Hi

I am trying to source the felt seal that fits around the final drive sprocket on a 1928 350, and find what type of grease / oil the gearbox is filled with.

Thanks Paul

1928 what? Here's a workshop manual. Which will give lubrication details. Some owners prefer to use modern semi fluid grease. http://archives.jampot.dk/book/Workshop ... dition.pdf
I cannot show you where to find the instruction book not knowing the model. One was supplied with every new bike, but many do not bother about getting that part of the bike.
Some owners are using Schrols corn plasters for felt seals.

Hi Rob

It is a AJS 350 big port.
Thanks for the manual.

Big port was just a nick name, there were several AJS 1928 350 models. I think it was not until 1931 that AJS actually refered to a certain model as being a big port.

Looking through the books I believe it is a K6.

I can tell year and model by the frame, engine & gearbox numbers. All numbers matched when the bike left the factory. If They don't match now, you do need to know at least, what year and model those 3 major parts are off. If you have a 350 OHV K6 but not a K6 gearbox you may wonder why your bike does not go well.
