1963 model 31 exhaust issues

Post by Titch »

Hi, I purchased 1963 AJS 31 partially restored. I can’t get the left hand exhaust to fit, it came with the long Norton type mufflers. The muffler sit low and close to the rear wheel and fouls the brake lever and main stand. This is just not correct for some reason. I suspect it may have had Siamese pipes originally as it was a Traffic Enforcement bike.
Is it possible to use CSR headers and the long Norton style muffler if so any ideas where to get CSR headers. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Yes, I have. They fitted well, just the usual slight mis-alighnment of the mounting tab, needed a bit of fiddling but generally very pleased. I also recently fitted an Armours set to my 18CS single (over comp footrests), fitted straight on and looks great.
