Cyl head nuts, alloy m/guard painted ?

Post by KennieJ »

Hi all,
last posted in "General Topics" on the 1960 G12 CSR I aquired a few months ago as boxes of small bits.
Moving on, I found 2 c/head nuts, chromed, 1 @ 2 7/8" and the other @ 1 3/4" long. Just the 2. Also, they are bored and tapped 3/8" on top. Why. Are these replacements, as they don't seem to be as others I have seen mentioned. Should it be 2 of the long, and it could be 6 of the short.
The front genuine alloy m/guard had what I thought was corrosion on the surface, but when I removed the bridge, it revealed it was really silver paint, now yellowing. That again seems off. Any thoughts. Maybe just painted in the past because of corrosion.
