Gauze oil filter

Post by Peter Morris »

I bought a new oil filter, oil tank gauze type, and found the hole in the brass end is smaller than the one I am replacing. The hole is only 1/4" in diameter.... is that enough, or should I run a drill through it?

Looking through the sales history hundreds and hundreds have been sold by both AMC Spares and the club with no reports of any engine issues being reported so I think you're safe to use as is. However if there is enough meat to drill out and you'd feel happier then go for it.

Thanks Rob,

It came from the club spares so I had a good idea that it would be right..... just seemed strange that the tank outlet/pipes are a bigger bore.

I ran a drill through the one I bought solely for "there, that seems seems better" reasons as there is plenty of meat there as Rob says. Just take care to catch the swarf, obviously.
